Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult

I finished listening to Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult yesterday. This is the 5th (I think) Picoult book I've listened to (and 7th I've read), and it's one of my favorites. Picoult does an amazing job of creating sympathy for both the victims and perpetrator of a school shooting in a high school in New Hampshire. The portrayal of the bullying that goes on at all levels of schooling is adequately depicted. I think this is an important book for high schoolers to read, as this is something that could happen anywhere. I highly recommend this book!

Where do you listen to books? In the car? I've been considering listening to books as I hike. But I'm not sure I want to give up the best thinking time of the day. :)

I listen to them on my commute, which is typically about 30 minutes one way. It's a great way to get through some of those books that I'm interested in, but not sure I want to give up my "reading" time for. (This one is actually an exception, as I don't consider Jodi Picoult books in that category, but the recordings of hers are always good.) It's also a great use of that otherwise wasted hour of my day. I'm with you on the hiking - I don't think I'd want to intrude on that "nature" time. Now, I *have* listened while walking the dog around the neighborhood, and my husband listens while he's doing the elliptical or running.

Do you just have a portable CD player, then and buy the books on CD? Can you download books for the ipod?

I subscribe to audible.com which allows you to download a certain number of books per month (depending on the level of membership). You can then either burn them to CD or upload them to any mp3 player (or play them from your computer).
